Information We Collect
RiverWatch is designed with your privacy in mind. We collect minimal information:
Location Data
- Purpose: To show nearby river monitoring stations on the map.
- Storage: Location data is used temporarily and is not stored on our servers.
- Permission: You can deny location access; the app will still function normally.
Network Access
- Purpose: To fetch real-time river level and flow data from USGS and Environment Canada.
- Data: No personal information is transmitted.
Local Storage
- Favorites: Saved stations are stored locally on your device only.
- Settings: User preferences are stored locally on your device.
In-App Purchases
RiverWatch offers optional in-app purchases to remove advertisements:
- Monthly subscription
- One-time lifetime purchase
Payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play. We do not collect or store payment information directly. Purchase status and subscription management are handled through Google Play's Billing API.
Third-Party Services
RiverWatch integrates with the following services to provide core features:
- Google Maps: Displaying the interactive station map interface (Google Privacy Policy).
- Google Play Services / AdMob: Ad delivery and billing verification (Google Privacy Policy).
- USGS Water Services: Public US river monitoring data service (no account required).
- Environment and Climate Change Canada: Public Canadian river monitoring data service (no account required).
Data Sharing & Analytics
We strictly respect user privacy:
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not share your data with third parties (except as required for core map rendering and payment processing).
- We do not track user behavior or usage analytics beyond standard Google Play diagnostic logs.
Account & Data Deletion
Since RiverWatch stores your favorite stations and settings locally on your device, you can delete all app data at any time:
- Open your Android device Settings.
- Navigate to Apps > RiverWatch > Storage.
- Tap Clear Data or Clear Storage.
Alternatively, uninstalling the app permanently removes all locally stored data. For questions regarding purchase restoration or data management, contact app.riverwatch@gmail.com.
Children's Privacy
RiverWatch does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy periodically. Any changes will be published directly to this page with an updated revision date.
